So copying those images with dd sometimes just makes me anxious. Good thing you can get it to print some progress by sending dd the USR1 signal.

sudo kill -USR1 $(pgrep '^dd')

That former command will let me know something is happening when copying stuff to those sd cards that don't even blink ;-)

PackageKit debuginfo on MeeGo

So MeeGo comes with PackageKit, it's not completely stable, so sometimes when things are going wrong

So running the daemon in verbose mode can provide loads of information, we can start by doing that by running this:

sudo /usr/libexec/packagekitd --verbose --disable-timer

That command will run successfully if the daemon isn't running yet of course. Now if we want to go the extra mile and provide a useful bug report we'll need to install debugging packages:

pkcon repo-enable core-debuginfo

pkcon repo-enable updates-core-debuginfo

pkcon refresh

pkcon install PackageKit-debuginfo libzypp-debuginfo gdb

So now we can attatch gdb to the pid corresponding to packagekitd:

sudo gdb -p `pgrep packagekitd`

If all goes well, you'll see a couple of key messages while gdb is loading like these:

Reading symbols from /usr/libexec/packagekitd...Reading symbols from /usr/lib/debug/usr/libexec/packagekitd.debug...done.

Tweaking the find-provides and find-requires when building RPMs

Suppose for a second you want to not list all the dependencies for an RPM, they might be contained within your package and might disrupt the rest of the system. To solve that issue and to also keep some automation for the Provides and Requires tags in rpm one would tune them a bit.

Per default, these days at least, this is handled by two scripts

/usr/lib/rpm/find-requires
/usr/lib/rpm/find-provides

The easiest way to tune these would be to copy them and edit or in the end completely replace so it suits your needs. To reference them in your spec file, these definitions need to exist:

%define __find_provides [find-provides]

%define __find_requires [find-requires]

Where [find-provides] and [find-requires] are the relative or absolute paths to the scripts you are replacing. Doing only this would not work. This statement is also needed in the spec file:

%define _use_internal_dependency_generator 0

Once that's done everything would work as expected. To make sure this is still the case when reading this, just make sure those are the macro/script combination called upon to check for dependencies:

grep __find /usr/lib/rpm/macros

#%__find_provides %{_rpmconfigdir}/rpmdeps --provides

#%__find_requires %{_rpmconfigdir}/rpmdeps --requires

%__find_provides %{_rpmconfigdir}/find-provides

This wouldn't affect the redefinition though.

Getting around Network Manager problems with WPA2

I ran into a problem with some certs some time ago and wanted to write about it for future reference. It was due to some certificate issues and it's formatting or something of the likes.

While the openssl command line utility had no problems with them, network manager refused them to be valid certs.

What was needed to be done was to remake them with openssl
$ openssl pkcs12 -in original.p12 -out temp.pem
$ openssl pkcs12 -in temp.pem -export -name "Repackaged PKCS#12 file" -out new.p12

All this was taken out from a bug report on launchpad.

Presenting Meego in Salta

This year I had the pleasure to attend the V Jornadas de Software Libre in Salta (http://5jsl.saltalug.org.ar). My participation involved the presentation of Meego to the local community.

As the events of the day to day life transcended due to the timing of my involvement and the pile of work I had coming along, I was unable to attend day 1 of the event, making myself available to travel and arrive for day 2 that Saturday morning.

The event was organised in such a way to have all the talks go one after the other in a single auditorium and have an outside area with some activities such as quizzes and first person shooters.

My talk about Meego was one of the last ones to go on stand, the attendance was rather good and people seemed keen to listen to what I had to say.

The talk was a run through of how Meego came to be, how it will evolve, the importance of a common base ground to work from, how the common base ensures applications will be able to cross over through the Meego verticals and most importantly, how to activate the local community in order for it to be involved. Many things could be done with Meego in its current state, ranging from creating local customisations from it adapting it to work best with the tools local to us, all the way to application development or translations.

As an addendum I gave a really quick introduction in how AppUp Center could facilitate distributing a developer's applications if they came to be with the added benefit of having them being validated by a team dedicated to do so.

My talk was preceded by one talk regarding Tuquito, named after how they call fireflies in Tucuman. The presenter was the current project leader. He also gave a walk through of the history and what Tuquito aims to be. Commenting the Tuquito Urbano movement which basically enables the local community with technology needed for today.

Tuquito is a distribution, spinned off from Ubuntu with many customisations made for universities, low powered machines and our local culture. They have enabled the ExoMate's in all their iterations to work well with Tuquito and have come in contact with many educational institutions for its distribution.

My comment regarding Tuquito comes with a stance, the leader, Mario, was rather interested in Moblin at the moment and some talks came later to be about making a Tuquito distribution using the Meego base (core). We came to agreement to get some talks going closer to the end of the year.

The community in the region (SaltaLug) was mostly interested in Meego, and wanted to start seeing some talks or workshops to develop for Meego, I commented on the possibility of doing that during next years event.

Afterwards, during the after event, which was basically a barbecue with all the organizers and presenters, we had a fair share on how to enable Meego in the local community.

Truly disabling advertisement (ad) fetching in Firefox

I stumbled upon this upon reading a slashdot comment, yeah, where else?

So I have ad-block installed, which does a pretty good job already. But that doesn't block everything, like javascript code calling sites like google analytics.

So I'm sharing this because it really improves the speed, specially on a notebook which struggles to keep up to speed with all that AJAX crap (pun intended?).

So the addon you would want to install is called BlockSite and can be found exactly here on the Mozilla addons site

Once installed configure your BlockSite preferences to include:

Flash replacement to keep an eye on

So flash has always been a problem for me since its inception, in the beginning it was an ignorable plugin which wasn't an actual necessity. Then came portal owners, such as my ISP for example, that began creating their whole content with flash, so it was on a day like that that it ended up on my OS.

Flash was always sub par on anything not MS Windows, and in my case, that is not the OS I choose to use. Everything was tolerable until many sites also started to stream videos with flash, some is utter crap, but every now and then, it's nice to see something and flash is really resource intensive when dealing with things like this.

In addition to that, I've switched over to mostly being on a netbook when not at work, interestingly enough, flash is not friendly.

While doing some random blog reading, a project came to my attention, and it might be a good idea to keep an eye on, that would be lightspark

So there, I'll be checking on it every now and then, luckily, html5 and everything else that's been going on will catch up fast and deem flash unnecessary :-)

Setting up a new kernel for meego

Meego has changed a bit from moblin, moblin used to use grub; meego has gone with extlinux, some sort of syslinux. Te configuration items are all in /boot/extlinux and can be easily configured from there.

This is what the default file upon install has:

Just saw 500 Days Of Summer, a very interesting and fun movie.

The way life goes in romance and all that stuff is interestingly displayed along the movie. The story telling makes this flick rather interesting and enjoyable.

The cast was neatly fit, I must admit I kind of like Zooey Deschanel and it was nice to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt, best known to me from 3rd Rock from the Sun. The music accompanying the film was very well meshed and the tunes chosen of my liking.

It's just one of those movies that, in my case, can't stop thinking about after seeing.

Installing freebsd on a Samsung N140

I had this notebook lying around given as a gift by my employer due to all the hard work we did getting the Intel App Up thing going for CES; as I already had a netbook working quite well with Opensolaris I didn't pay to much attention to this one until recently.

Opensolaris has been lacking some updates and breakage lately, so I decided to pull out this netbook and get FreeBSD working on it. I did this some time ago and my intention was to document it as I am very forgetful of what I have done and what I have not.

The install was pretty straight forward, I grabbed the freebsd-8.0 RELEASE, you can find it
here.

Post install, everything basically boots up fine. Wired networking works, so at least I have some form of networking, wireless does not though and that is when I find out that installing or upgrading to freebsd-8.0 STABLE would be a good idea as there were commits there that would allow the atheros wireles card to work.

A difficult netbook decision to make

It all started out after receiving a work gift for all our hard work to get the Intel AppUp Center going. That work gift was a netbook, a Samsung N140, pretty nice indeed... the gift and also having your effort to get the job done appreciated in some context :-)

The dilemma is that Ive been a netbook user for a while, I recently upgraded my old EEE 701 with 4GB of flash storage which was already pretty nice (yes I'm kind of an early adopter) to a Acer Aspire One D250 and happily and actively using it a lot more than my desktop or my heavy notebook.

So here's the comparison table, with the stuff that matters to me:

What am I to do with this? I was thinking of using it as a desktop replacement with a standard keyboard and mouse attached to it displaying the bits to be seen on a big monitor of course.

The other thing I can do is sell... I'm not into that though... but if it comes to it, it might be what needs to be done.

Then again, with all the extra features it has, I might just have to learn to deal with the keyboard be done with it, that is once I check that OpenSolaris works well on this one :-)

I've just ported emesene to opensolaris, why? Well, the people in the Argentina Opensolaris User Group thought it would be a nice idea and also, Mariano G. who is one of the developers working on that application happens to be a colleague of mine at work. In the presence of problems, he would of been easy to reach.

Needless to say, there was basically no porting. Disregarding the fact that I don't connect to the MSN or Live network anymore, this would be a nice to have for many as it's one of those few just works applications and has webcam support integrated. Did I say no trouble in porting? It's mostly python, that may be the reason.

Without further a due, if you want to try out the package on opensolaris, just click on this link and it will install using the package manager, just take into account that this is in the pending repository. If you happen to be an approver and want this in, please vote it into contrib!

It's running quite nicely on my opensolaris snv_111 revision and the pidgin status updating is working OK. That's all I've tested so far, it's nice to have a compact last.fm client and something not depending on flash, this is a perfect application for my EEE 701!

snv_98 on the EEE 701

I don't have any huge drives to perform a pkg image-update so I took the easy route and just performed a backup of my data popped in a USB DVD drive and booted OpenSolaris current (snv_98).

After installation I still got some errors:

puppet ebook and digital reading

I've been playing with puppet... well, it may actually go into production (lab production that is) so playing might not be that accurate. As usual I found myself fooling around the web and ran into this which I yet haven't listened to. Anyhow in the comments I saw someone talk about a book he wrote published on Apress. I followed the link, and as an impulse and because I never bought an ebook before, I decided to purchase it and check it out. The book in question is titled "Pulling Strings with Puppet: Configuration Management Made Easy".

I thought I didn't like to read ebooks, but somehow the feeling is quite different when the actual artifact was a purchased one. The value one inadvertently gives to such things astonishes me.

I'm also subscribed to the IEEE and rather read what is provided over digital media, but constantly look over what I get in print. I guess it is more related to the feeling and ease when skipping pages and going back and forth. I value that a lot, too bad it doesn't feel so good when you think about the trees at stake...

Having to learn Solaris on a platform different than Solaris

During the JRSL08 I attended a lecture sponsored by Sun. The lecturer handed out, together with an opensolaris CD, some brochures or sheets of paper as I like to call them with some info to access Sun's Academic Initiative (SAI), in other words, access to the courseware in order to learn Solaris to get certified or just learn (link).

I created my account a few days ago, added some courses to my learning plan and moved on to my usual work. Today I decided to try out a course in my plan only to see that accessing a random course brings Firefox down, after two other attempts and figuring out it wasn't some random thing I went on to the technical support section to find out that my patform wasn't supported.

So my computer is reported as a SunOS, more precisely:

So these are the platforms that skillsoft supports:

Jornadas Regionales de Software Libre

So here I am quite alone at the JRSL in Buenos Aires. I've met some interesting people. On the first day I probably listened to all of Dag Wieers' talks and looked for him in between to talk some more.
I also chit chatted with Christoph Hellwig and commented about Intel being in Cordoba, he sounded quite interested until I mentioned that we work on services there.
One of the greatest talks was on Thursday, by maddog, it was quite impressive, there was live streaming, so I guess there'll be a video out any time, anyone who couldn't see it should check it out.
I also go my picture taken with maddog :-)

opensolaris on the eee

After getting my 2[GB} RAM module I've decided to turn my eee which had xubuntu into an opensolaris carrier. I went with the snv_93 snapshot.

Problems found where the usual ones, keyboard did not work, plugging in a USB keyboard and unplugging it made the integrated keyboard work. To avoid this I read somewhere that making Solaris boot in debug mode (verbose '-v'), made the issue go away. So now I have some detailed boot up messages and a working keyboard. I wonder how much overhead that could cause.

Sound's working thanks to OSS, wireless works thanks to this driver.
I haven't tried the camera, the wired network isn't working, suspend failed and I can't install any big package onto the system (due to limited space).

What I'd like to get working are the special keys, I'll have to investigate and see if someone's done it already or move on and see if I can work on it myself. Getting the webcam to work isn't a priority of mine since I used it for skyping and since skype is not available for solaris yet, I don't have any motivation to walk that walk. I still need to configure the touchpad to get scrolling on the go.

Leaving that aside, all in all, I'm quite happy. So now I need space on my eee which only has 4[GiB], what else to do in the rush:

On the opensolaris bandwagon

So I just spent the last couple of hours getting Opensolaris 200805 on my PC. I previously had SXCE on, build 81 I think. The move was not as straightforward as I would've liked, then again, it can be blamed entirely on myself since I did not read the Release Notes.

On my first try, I got my USB pen thingy and used the tool provided to copy over what was on the live CD onto my pen drive. So the USB pen drive was my first input into trying to install. Well, I couldn't even get the live system to load, which was good because I forgot to export my zfs filesystem which was not on my Solaris partition in order in re import it cleanly on the new install.

So I just moved on to the livecd, popped up the gui-install app and was on my way, chose the current partitining got to 99% and it just stalled there. So I restarted...

... and on my last try (many omitted), I just deleted my Solaris partition, my primary Linux Swap partition and created a new Solaris 2 partition on top of both. I also destroyed the rpool zfs that was lying around and got it to install.

Right now I'm installing openoffice, sunstudioexpress and netbeans with ips. While waiting for it to finish I went on and was going to re setup my cbe environment as I had in SXCE to build some applications out of the spec files provided.

I was going to document that but found this http://blogs.sun.com/dhollister/entry/solaris_vs_audacity, so if it works, great, if not I'll document the differences.

While I waited I also created a sourceforge accout with the intent of contributing some spec files. I hope I can live up to my own expectations and do it.

Preparandose para el futuro

Los chicos de tele 2001 me llevaron a ver un film llamado *Zeitgeist*, la verdad es que me sorprende las porquerias que se ven en este mundo. Tambien ha logrado de que me cuestione muchas cosas sobre como vivimos ahora, asi como tambien alentar el hecho de que, en general, nadie sabe lo que quiere y es guiado a pensar que lo sabe. Estaremos proximos a 1984 (Big Brother)? O es que ya estamos ahi y mejorando la supervision? En los tiempos actuales, ver el gran hermano (mucha gente que conozco lo ve), sera una preparacion a lo que se viene?

La impotencia a todo esto me deja demasiado triste, quiza no todas las cosas en ese film sean ciertas o todo sea una exageracion de la realidad. En definitiva, lo unico que quedan son puntos de vista. Y este es un punto que me gustaria explorar, en su lugar, las ambiciones y objetivos serian similares?

Espero creer que no. Donde esta el bien contra el mal al cual tanto me aferro? Hay tanto mal que el bien es opacado.

En el trabajo me suceden cosas similares, nos preguntamos con un amigo siempre de porque no podemos ser mas simples y solo hacer lo que debemos hacer sin cuestionar tanto las cosas.

The main buzz in this is the talk about Fedora in Nasa, it seems it is used a lot, not something I expected for production, much less mission critical stuff where lives are involved. But hey, it looks like my perception was wrong and Fedora (together with RHEL, Solaris and Suse) does have enough confidence to do this job.

La realidad que se aproxima

Bastante tiempo ya ha pasado desde la ultima vez que he escrito algo en este sitio. Lo que me conlleva a hacerlo una vez mas es algo que aun no me termino de explicar, pero pareciera que cada tanto surgira este sentimiento que me guie a relatar alguna que otra cosa.

El mundo en este momento se siente como si estuviera pintado de otros colores... seguramente esos colores se desten~iran una vez que me tope con la realidad y esta percepcion que me domina en este momento dejara de existir asi como las ganas, por decirlo de alguna manera, de escribir estas palabras que solo tienen sentido para mi. "Yo", este ente que transita por estos tiempos en los cuales nos han tocado vivir.

Toparse con lo que se considera factualmente real es algo que no quiero presenciar nuevamente. Nuevamente es una palabra muy fuerte... quiza nunca me he topado con esta susodicha realidad y simplemente con una fraccion de ella. Aun asi, las caidas desde los castillos en las nubes que suelo armar son muy fuertes. Mas habiles para enfrentar los retos de la vida nos convertiremos si aceptamos la idea de preguntarnos, por que nos caemos? Tomar lo mejor de los eventos pasados y esperar mejores momentos o tratar de convertir el tiempo del que disponemos en lo mejor que podamos.

Solo espero que este sentimiento me atrape por suficiente tiempo y ver si asi se pudiera disfrutar de la vida de forma en la cual pienso que no la he podido hacer aun o si ya lo hice... no cometer los errores que me llevaron a caer.

Eso es extactamente lo que vengo planeando hacer, me voy a trabajar a Motorola, he logrado ser adquirido como parte del recurso humano de esa empresa, no se si me estoy metiendo en algo mas complicado o menos de lo que estoy haciendo ahora, pero me atrae la idea de viajar, me atrae los objetivos que me plantearon, me encanta la idea de volver a hablar en english, me encanta tanto como una big mac que tan adorada es.

Bueno, el otro motivo de irme, es que estoy considerando irme del castellano definitivamente al escribir aqui. Motivo, ninguno y todos a la vez, de la forma que lo veo, tampoco tengo motivos de escribir en castellano mas que para que eventualmente lea alguien sin saberlo yo.

Y aunque no pueda ser cierto, existe una tercera razon para decir que me voy, y es que estoy considerando un par de dias en Posadas como algo que me va a venir muy bien, asi que veremos que sucede con eso.

Adios diario querido que no quiero que nadie lea para que no enteren de mis intimidades!

Tipico caso que uno quiero llegar en el auto de un punto a otro y no sabe como son las manos/sentidos de las calles y agarra un mapa y supone que doblando en una esquina puede llegar pero al momento de hacerlo se encuentra con que solo era una calle de una mano o que cambia de mano en el medio del recorrido... Bueno que es lo que nos puede ayudar? Y como no otra cosa que el maldito gobierno! :-D

Y por que no? aca estamos con el vmware que hace paralelizacion con la cpu y emula lo demas. Para correr aplicaciones especificas de productividad anda re bien, no pidan D3D nomas!

Bueno ha pasado un buen rato ya desde mi ultimo post y muchas son las cosas que han acontecido hasta el momento. Primera novedad es que estoy trabajando, especificamente con centrales telefonicas. Por otro lado ayer presentamos la tesis en documentacion como para que nos den fecha de tribunales.

La verdad es que estoy muy contento, haciendo tambien contactos ya profesionales y no tantos, tengo una nueva amiga rusa, todo por chat la amiga pero es divertido hablar y conocer a personas de otros lados.

Tambien en la casa la vida es distinta ya que mi hermana se ha conseguido gracias a caprichos, el cuidado de una perra llamada Mucca. Ella es una cachorra bastante tilinga y que de vez en cuando me saca de quicio, pero cuando duerme es un expectaculo :-D

La dejo corto y no escribo mas.

Bueno, acá estamos estudiando para lo que sería el último final que tendría que rendir en esta carrera, pensando en que me deparará el futuro tan incierto que tenemos para vivir en estos días.

Uno pensaría que quizá esté mejor parado en una época anterior donde todo sabían desde pequeños que es lo que serían en su vida, pero pienso yo que eso sea muy aburrido también, tener un destino prefijado, hacer lo que los demás esperan que haga, mejor ahora donde el tema del destino es incierto, que en definitiva hace a la vida mas exitante.

Más exitante que esto uno no se podría esperar, claro, siempre está ese temor a lo incierto, pero si aceptamos lo que somos y el momento que nos toca vivir, uno podría pasar por feliz sin ningún problema

Ahora ya vuelto a la rutina digo: "Que buenas vacaciones que he pasado". Esos viajes que uno se hace con bajas expectativas y resulta que la pasa fabulosamente bien.
Refresque un poco sobre la "Teoria del Caos", pero aun mas importante se me volvio a la mente de porque puede ser de que estemos vivos.

Anoche vi un peliculon que no fue del agrado de muchos de los que me acompañaron. Puedo arruinar la pelicula un poco para el que sigue leyendo, pero se me hizo una mezcla entre "Pulp Fiction" y "Dick Tracy", que combinacion. Era un poco fuerte y una de esas arriesgadas, hace mucho que no veo tanta gente levantarse en el medio de una pelicula... Pero que bueno que fue como fue porque ya me estaba cansando de ver mas de lo mismo. A mucha gente no se los recomendaria, pero a los que si, estoy seguro que los va a gustar.

La escribo porque no me la quiero olvidar, esta muy buena. Como era que comenzaba? A ver si la puedo arrancar...

Resulta que en una habitación de tamaño considerable se coloca en el centro de la misma una escalera, que en su cima tiene una banana. Un intento de recoger esta banana conlleva a un castigo a todos los seres que se encuentran en la habitación, acoto que el castigo en sí no se me viene a la memoria (debería de completarlo luego)

Una vez descrito el escenario, tendría ya que dedicarme a la paradoja. Resulta que colocan a un mono en la habitación, éste al ver la banana decide que está en el mejor de sus intereses obtenerla, al llegar a la banana, el mono es castigado, luego de varios intentos de cogerla, decide que ya no le interesa tanto la banana...

Ahora meten a otro mono más dentro de la habitación, este al igual que el otro, al ver la banana decide cogerla, resulta que al intentar agarrarla, no solo es castigado él pero también el primer mono que se encuentra en algún lugar de la habitación.

Meten un tercer mono, ya cuando este se acerca a la escalera, los dos primeros monos lo pegan como para que no suba la escalera, este último mono no entiende porque le pegan si lo único que quiere hacer es subirse para agarrar la banana. Cuando le dejan de golpear, lo intenta de nuevo, pero es nuevamente impedido por los otros dos monos. Ya el tercer mono, sin saber porque asume que es malo querer subirse por la escalera.

Meten a un cuarto mono, éste trata de recoger la banana pero es impedido mediante golpizas por los otros. El tercero también se une a la golpiza (sin entender mucho de porque golpea, pero por las dudas pega fuerte)... meten un quinto y sucede lo mismo, habiéndose unido a la riña el cuarto mono. Curiosamente los monos que no tienen idea de porque están pegando son los que más fuerte pegan.

Ahora sacan de la habitación al primer y segundo mono insertados, resulta que al meter a un quinto mono, que intenta lo mismo que los anteriores, es tratado con brutalidad para que no suba por la escalera.

Lo paradójico de esto es que ya no están los monos que sabían porque era que golpeaban, ahora únicamente están los que siguieron la corriente de los primeros asumiendo que era malo subir la escalera, pero no saben porque lo es...

No me salió muy bien, pero eso era de esperarse, espero leer esto en un futuro y poder entenderme!!

Se ha acabado una era

Como puedo plasmar lo que siento en este momento no lo sé. Pero si trataré de recordar, el sentimiento y la pasión por algo tan sutíl que percibo en este momento. Introduciéndome al tema, como puede ser que el Episodio III represente para mi el fin de una era?

Muchos pensarán que es solamente otra película de efectos especiales, a mi pensar, habiendo crecido con lo que es el universo "Star Wars", diré que ahora todo tiene sentido. La forma en la que se presenta la película es tal, que tengo ese sentimiento dentro mi que tanto he añorado, la felicidad por algo abstracto, iluso...

Me ha encantado como se preparó todo para ser lo que es el Episodio III. No creo que sea muy grato para el que solo quiera ver otra película en cartel. En cambio, para alguien que lo ha seguido, verá algo bello, y no me refiero unicamente a imágenes, sino también a lo que es la historia en sí, casi perfecto a mi parecer.

Hace cuanto que no oigo un aplauso en el cine, hace tanto fue la última vez. Mucho más ha transcurrido para que una imagen, una sola, haga que fluyan tantos sentimientos a la vez.

Y que tiene que ver esto con el fin de una era? Nada, pero ha finalizado lo que representa una gran parte de mi formación como persona, quiza el que me quiera entender a fondo pueda lograrlo a través de sutiles detalles del mensaje que transmite este universo.
Ya estoy delirando más de la cuenta, me voy a dormir...

Me siento como mi viejo, refiriéndome a estilos musicales ultimamente he preferido quedarme con lo que ya conozco. Ha llegado el momento ese en que uno compara toda la musica nueva que se le presenta y lo contrasta con lo que tiene y prefiere lo que ya está... Y yo me preguntaba porque mis viejos oian siempre lo mismo... Bueno, ahora creo que me esta sucediendo a mi.

Lo mas sorprendente es la temprana edad a la que me sucede esto. Como si fuera poco, cuando llego a casa y la música esta fuerte me altero y enojo, más bien, tengo dolores de cabeza. Es muy deprimente esto. Irónicamente deprimente porque yo solia ser el que tenía siempre la música fuerte.

Como si fuera poco, ya ni recuerdo que es lo que me gusta y que no.

Conmemoración del fallecimiento de O'Sensei

Hoy a diferencia de otros, en vez de una clase normal de Aikido, lo que hicimos fue conmemorar el día mediante una pequeña reunión pseudo charla. Estuvo interesante, y la verdad no tengo más idea de que pensar sobre esto.

Pasando a otra cosa, sistemas, me estoy dando cuenta (al fin) un sistema mal administrado se puede convertir en una pesadilla para un tercero que lo quiere tocar o para el sucesor del administrador, desde otro punto de vista se lo puede pensar como una característica de seguridad. ¿Por qué no? Si está todo instalado en lugares no estandar, las apicaciones se ejecutan desde cualquier lugar totalmente críptico entenderlo para corromperlo también costará, obviamente haciendo esto perdemos la transparencia, pero en fin, no se puede todo.

Me he inscrípto para participar en la rama de desarrollo de software para telecomunicaciones de la rama, esperos que eso se de, que este año me pongo con lo académico.

Hoy estaba pensando en como funciona la mente de las personas y como es que toman ciertas decisiones basándose en un concepto y de repente el siguiente salto o paso de su proceso consiste en hacer algo completamente distinta a la filosofía de su primer idea.
Todo esto viene por el hecho de que hoy me estaban criticando lo difícil que parece ser usar un sistema con Linux (con GNU y demás software), refiriéndose a la instalación de programas nuevos.... vuelvo luego a ésta idea

A veces no entiendo como puede ser que, por ejemplo, el caso del armado de la PC, algunos se la pasan horas eligiendo componente por componente para montar sobre él un sistema totalmente genérico que ni siquiera puede apuntar a sus requerimientos pero es simplemente aceptado. Pasando a aclarar un poco, el caso es que según mi punto de vista, la instalación de un Linux del tipo que se arma (también referido como los difíciles de instalar) es una tarea muy similar al que corresponde al armado de una PC. Pienso yo que en el caso de querer usar una distribución genérica que me instala lo que el que armó esa distribución piensa ser mejor para mi ¿Por qué no correrlo en una maquina armada por algún tercero que puede pensar que eso es lo que mejor me conviene?

Muchas cosas (IEEE InstallFest)

Bueno, ayer fue el pseudo installfest de Slackware 10.1, luego me entere de que a algunos se les habia suministrado CDs de la version 10.0 de dicho sistema, lo que me llevo a hacer algunas configuraciones que habia tomado por sentado debido a que se suponia tener al hotplug instalado.

Uno de los participantes habia ido con un amd64 con un disco s-ata y mas vivo que yo no puede haber, habra sido el estres que me estaba causando toda la gente y no habre asimilado el hecho de que me habia dicho serial ata y que en realidad la solucion al problema era trivial.

En definitiva, sin contar con el pobre chico del 64, hubieron muchos que resultaron interesados en lo que fue todo el evento y me sorpendio el interes que han mostrado, dado que la razon de este evento fue la instalacion para que los inscriptos en protocolos tengan una instalacion como para programar para la asignatura, justamente digo sorprende porque la mayoria de los que se encontraban presentes era personas de otros cursos.

Cultivando a los demas sobre jabber

Bueno, con este post tengo las intenciones de comentar sobre que es jabber para ver si mas gente lo comienza a usar. Para los desinformados jabber es un es el estandar de mensajeria instantanea y presencia en la red (XMPP) y esta definido en el ITEF bajo el RFC 3920 y el RFC 3921:

A parte de ser un estandar, otra ventaja presenta jabber es que los clientes optan por el servidor al cual se quieren conectar dado que estos son de caracter distribuido, todas las funcionalidades estan implementadas en el servidor y ademas son extensibles, dejando al cliente la simple tarea de "practicamente" conectarse nomas.

Para los que lo quieran probar, pueden comenzar mediante su visita a www.jabber.org y ver que cliente quieren usar, el recomendado para Windows parece ser el Exodus, aca del otro lado me encuentro cambiando de bando entre el gossip, kopete y gaim por mi falta de estabilidad (aun me queda por probar el psi) :-)
Luego proceden a elegir (o antes) el servidor con el que se quieren conectar, dependiendo de sus necesidades esta eleccion puede diferir entre los usuarios por lo mencionado anteriormente de que como los servidores son extensibles no todos soportan todas las funcionalidades. No puede hacer tanto calor aca en Misiones, pensaba venir para poder descansar un rato y al final tengo que andar encerrado todo el dia tratando de sacar el mejor provecho de las facilidades que me provee el hogar (aire acondicionado ;-) )....
Terminé de instalar el Slackware y ya armé una especie de guía de instalación para poder dar en la pseudo installfest, solo tengo para decir, que bueno que estaba el Slackware, aunque dude de que sea del agrado de muchos de los que asistirán a ésta cosa.

Bueno, estoy 'iendo' para Posadas llevando el Slackware 10.1 pa' casa para poder hacer unas instalaciones de prueba como para armar un pequeño curso para el installfest UBP como para que todos se pongan al dia con como se hacen las cosas 'the unix way'. Ademas me sirve para ver que tal anda la primer distro que instale (la 3.5 si mal no recuerdo).
